Both 3/8in and 1/2in hose will be rated for a specific working PSI
The hose on the reel is rated at 300 PSI
The main difference in the two sizes
is the weight of the hose, especially with water in it
and the amount of flow the hose can supply.
The water weight for 125ft
of 3/8 hose is 6lbs
and 1/2in is 11lbs
Plus the hose itself.
The flow varies by the amount of pressure is applied
with higher pressures flowing more volume.
125ft of hose will deliver as much as the indicated flow rates listed here:
At 40 psi 3/8in hose flows 3.3gpm and 1/2in flows 6gpm
At 60 psi 3/8in hose flows 4.4gpm and 1/2in flows 8gpm
At 100 psi 3/8in hose flows 5.5gpm and 1/2in flows 10gpm
This is only for guidance as there are other factors that
will impact the flow including fitting sizes, control valve size, water temperature
